I Love Yolks More Than Whites..

My favourite part of the egg - THE YOLK has about 210mg of cholesterol. Unless you are healthy, you should be limiting your intake to less than 300mg a day. And if you have cardiovascular disease or diabetes, you need to limit to less than 200mg a day.

So what does that mean? If you have toast bread with two soft/half boiled eggs, you’d be eating more than recommended mg of cholesterol… sigh. And I do like to take soft boiled eggs, about few times a week… my doc said that it is best that I don’t take them more than twice a week… sigh sigh sigh

My friends recommended egg whites but it’s just not the same. No egg is the same without the creamy yummy yolk… maybe I can do with less but I can’t do without… What about you..

I love my eggs to much.. especially the yolks..

What is in a Name

Posted by spymama on Feb-12-2010

I read that you can get rid of all your extra fats through liposuction. For one thing, I think I wouldn’t want to mess my body with something like that. Then a few friends were chatting away from lipozene became part of the conversation. They were talking about lipozene but since I was briefly away from the table, I miss the part when my friend explained what it was about. I am curious about how this word came about.. Lipo. What is the meaning of it? Now everyone wants to use the word but not sure if they understand the real meaning of it. A building where I used to work was called Lipo too. Is the name Lipo a name or just a company I wonder

Chilly Padi Post

Are you a Chilly Padi addict? I am! Chilly Padi is those little mini chilly that is also known as ‘bird’s eye chilly’. Why do they name it this way? And why do they call it Chilly Padi? Wonder if it’s because it was grown side by side with Paddy plants or is it because they look as small as Rice Field plant? Sigh, I do not know but my friend who is caucasian asks me such questions.. hehehe There are many different varieties, some are very small, some fat-ish smallish and some are just very big and long. Which one is spiciest, I wonder? My friends from Malaysia tells me the stout fat ones are spiciest but I really can’t tell.. I thought the Thai varieties are quite spicy.. yummy!

Cheese Cake is just Yummy

I went shopping at Jurong Point two weeks ago and saw this pretty cheesecakes on display.. I was actually drooling over them but it was just very late (kinda like 9pm already). I thought of buying one but then, I knew that my fridge had no space and if I really wanted to buy them, I’d have devoured it on that day or share with some friends over tea. The following day, I just couldn’t keep my mind out of the cheesecake.. LOL…  I am a cheesecake lover and I love both the Japanese versions as much as the heavy rich and sinful New York Cheesecake too.

Yummmmmmm…

Honey, They Shrinked The Prata!

Posted by spymama on Jul-24-2009

I miss having mutton curry with prata. Despite being busy, Spypapa and I drove to Jalan Kayu for our Prata fix. We used to patronise this outlet for it’s popular prata many years ago. But since there are so many good food and prata outlets opening every where else, we hardly travel to Jalan Kayu. Sometimes we’d go to Clementi Road where the popular Cheese Prata shop is but we don’t really eat the Cheese Prata. And there are many lovely prata and teh tariks along the Bukit Timah road, across the Beauty World area.

I was shocked when I received my plate of Pratas… It has shrunk considerably! Or have I grown bigger or my eyes playing tricks? I’m not kidding.. The fork/spoon is the standard size so you know how small my prata is!!!!

Hmm blame it on the increased cost, I supposed. But there was hardly a crowd at Jalan Kayu.. My prata was not crispy hot but just warm.. sigh… perhaps that is why customers have lost their interest too?

The consolation was, the mutton curry still tastes awesome…

Cookie Guilt

Posted by spymama on May-26-2009

Smells.. smells of good food whenever I walk past some kiosk or stall.. I just cannot resist it. And on Sunday, there was this familiar yummy smell in the air. I trailed the smell (I really did!) and found this familiar sweet smell of Famous Amos Chocolate Chip’s Cookies.. Oh those delicious snacks that I’d die for anytime.

I bought about 300gms of it (that is already a little over $10) and chomped away. I had not had breakfast nor lunch so it’s very bad to go shopping on an empty stomach, I know. Ok forget about the fats, cholesterol, sugar, bla bla bla.. I finished them in less than half and hour.. Now feeling very guilty about it, two days later.

The thing is, I’m craving for more! Should I get them? The fresh ones are so yummy. I never buy those from the supermarket shelves.. they taste so different and waxy. sigh…. I’m just longing for more now.

Not For Sale *Grrr!!!*

Posted by spymama on Mar-25-2009

I found this picture I took a month ago on these lovely loaves of bread at Toastbox. I was at Vivocity, the mall just across Sentosa. Spymama loves anything authentic or traditional of the old old days and retro. Perhaps this is a way to stop growing old and cling on to my younger days… ???

Anyway, I saw these yummy loaves on the shelves and was delighted. I walked straight to the cashier and told the lady that I wanted to get a loaf of those bread..

To My Horror !!!

You know she told me what? Not for Sale!!

Those are for Displays!!

Can you imagine my embarrassment? Then why you put that darn looking delicious things there! Grrr… *walked away looking frustrated to cover my embarrassment…*

Unsettled Cravings

Posted by spymama on Mar-23-2009

Okie Okie, I know it was wishful thinking about that Ferrari in my earlier post. Actually right now a more realistic and down to earth wish is to go out and eat Nasi Lemak. I’ve been craving for that in the past week. I didn’t get to eat that while on my short holiday. Aaah well. Anyone knows of a good Nasi Lemak in Singapore? I used to go out for Nasi Lemak supper time with Spypapa at Fong Seng’s near the Cheese Prata shop near NUS. But lately Spypapa had to take some medication for his high blood pressure and he also had been sick… so I had to curb my craving too for fear that he would go overboard on all those unhealthy food.

So now how.. my saliva is just drooling crazy.. even last night I dreamt of swimming on a bed of Nasi Lemak.. I want mine with lots of Chilly Sambal and Anchovies. And throw in that Saba fish too. And the Sambal Brinjal, Fried Egg, Otah, that crispy Mermaid Fish… oh just throw in everything you got!

Pic above taken when I went to Old Town to try their Nasi Lemak.

Hot Afternoon

Posted by spymama on Feb-10-2009

It is terribly hot! The weather is burning off a layer of my skin. Okay, I’m just exaggerating. But it’s really hot out there today. I thought the rain was welcoming two days ago, but seems it was just a passing shower.

I wish to go out and sit in my usual kopi tiam enjoying a cup of Kopi O, actually. But the weather is killing me. Perhaps it would be nice to go swimming but then again, i’d need to slap on slicks of that SPF 25 or I’ll be burnt like a roast.

So I decided that I should just stay home, have my kopi O and some chinese cruellers for companion. What do I have here, They are:

1. You Tiao  2. Butterfly Fritters  3.
Hum Chim Peng

Can You Guess Which of these I’d be eating first?

These are not fresh, they are leftovers from yesterday’s breakfast. But warming it up in the oven, they taste great too. Kopi O is definitely freshly brewed.

Let’s read some papers. Hmm… wonder what Spypapa is doing now on a hot day?

Delicate Cake

Posted by spymama on Jan-15-2009

Decades back when I was in my teens , my aunt used to send some cakes she made to our house. She had learnt baking and was baking almost every weekend trying out new recipes all the time. We became her guinea pigs, of course. She made all types of cakes and they were yummy. However, there was one particular cake that I didin’t know how to appreciate was the Kueh Lapis.

Kueh Lapis is the malay term for Layer Cake. This cake has to be carefully baked, layer by layer without getting the earlier layers burnt. What I didn’t like about the cake was the spices that were used in the ingredient.

That was then, of course. As I grow older, I have learnt to acquired a liking to it and it is one of my favourite cakes of all time. I was delighted when a wonderful friend of mine gave me some for this Chinese New Year just yesterday. Oh it was not just a small piece, it was a whole slab. Now this cake is not cheap and I cannot imagine how much she must have spent on this large cake.

What a pleasant Chinese New Year it will be. Great with a cuppa coffee!
