In the local Singapore papers last week, there has been some deaths. Deaths associated with financial instability. A father and son had died on two different locations on the same day, hours from each other. The father was said to have suffered from depression and he and the son is very close, the latter mentally handicapped.
Another case was also a men who was financially troubled, owing banks, creditors and loan sharks that he decided to take his life commiting suicide. Apparently he used to own business, properties and when his business soured and no end to his financial troubles, it seems that this is the only road left.. is this the only path for humans when faced with money blues? Money seems to be the root to all evil, don’t you think so.
How sad when one takes their own live. I wonder when one is financially strapped, do the banks actually listen or do they just try, by all means to get their money from the debtors? This is very serious because when one is really down, and if the banks do not give time, it becomes a depressing problem. When one loses a job, or has lost money, there is nothing one can do in very short time, except to work and make ends meet. Creditors should try to put themselves in the victims’ shoes because they would not be able to cough up such a large amount of money at very short time when they do not have a job or has no money, don’t you think so? And if creditors give ample time, then at least the problem won’t be too depressing and one does not have to think that there is no way out and death becomes the only path to solving a problem.
Do we have a non profit organization that actually helps those who is facing depression, like a depression treatment programme to assist those in this situation? Then again, when one is depressed, he or she may not want to reach out or be reached out.
I certainly hope this will not go unnoticed too long because when the economy goes down, creditors get active and people get depressed. Jobs do not give you tens and thousands of dollars at one go so I do hope banks will work out some time, otherwise we shall be seeing too many depression and deaths associated with financial instability.
