Same but Different

Posted by spymama on Dec-7-2009

The song Caribbean Queen stirs up lots of Pina Coladas cocktail in my mind. I can almost taste it! It was playing on the radio on Class 95 and my radio has been tuned to this channel for the longest time. Perhaps it’s been like that since the early 90s, and I never bothered to update myself with the latest pop nor any other music channel ever since. Living in sunny Singapore, it has always been warm and sticky and thoughts of beach, parties by the beach, pineapple cocktails, bikini babes and hunks hot in their trunks did not conjure in my mind. But if you mention Caribbean Sea, West Indies Islands, Cuban music - I can’t help but think of holidays, resorts in mexico, jamaica, cancun and even bahamas. What do they have in common that Singapore doesn’t have besides similar rich fauna, tropical weather with rain and sun whole year long? I can’t really comprehend, really. What is Singapore like? Truthfully, women in executive office gear and sarung party girls with fake english accents and heels.. sigh.. I really want my holiday, y’know..

Found it finally

Okay Okay, what should I do now. After I found my pedometer (finally).. I went online to google for slimming pills. I saw so many, in fact TOO MANY brands and just so many reviews. Should I go for the top one or just any top 10 will do? I wonder if the reviews which include positive and negative remarks help. Do you think they are authentic reviews? Some of these weight watching products have been endorsed by stars and some even share their secret supplement products. I think now I must go check if my walking shoes are still wearable and my exercise apparels.. OH NO, where are they? In the closet? I haven’t worn those for ages! I need to go wash it now or I’d be smelling like walking mothballs! YUCKS!

Double Trouble

Posted by spymama on Dec-7-2009

I looked frantically for my pedometer yesterday. I remembered that I had one in my little drawer. Do you know what a pedometer is? Well, it is that little electronic device that helps you collection information like how many steps you took and the miles or kilometer you have walked in your span of time you timed it. I wanted to know how far or how many steps I take in a single day when I have work. Let me tell you what I plan to do. Knowing how many kilometers I walk in a single day and double that with the supplement of my choice of diet pill, perhaps I can loose double the weight in doubly short time? Why do I need it badly? It’s gonna be Christmas!!! I have parties to attend to and I don’t really want to look like a pillar next to the buffet table… lol

Just My Imagination

Posted by spymama on Dec-7-2009

The other day, I walked past the rice section in a local supermarket. I heard this humming song around the place. I know I’ve heard the song before and it sounded so familiar. No words, no lyrics - just the humming of the song. I left the place thereafter but when I went to this section again few days later, I heard that again.. it was the same thing, just very short, then it went on again and again. I felt like goose pimples actually. Wild thoughts, uneasy thoughts. Then I left. Was I feeling too stressful lately? Did I worked too hard to imagine some ghostly thoughts? I wondered if the option my friend’s invite for a lazy holiday at one of those nice myrtle beach condos still stands? Perhaps I really do need that holiday after all.

Then yesterday, I was there at the supermart rice section again (I have to walk past it to get to the veg and seafood section) and that humming song started as I walked in.. sigh.. I looked around and finally understood what it was! It was a little advert-video just above a particular Thai brand of rice! And that was where the humming song came from.. phew!

Don’t buy same things for Baby

Posted by spymama on Dec-6-2009

Several close friends have given birth and they are new moms. Many a time, their One Month old baby celebration comes with many newborn or new set of infant clothes. And just like what I faced in both my girls, I get several similar items! For myself, I prefer to buy or customize things special for the newborn. I think gift vouchers are great too as this let the moms buy what their babies need rather than buy a different brand of toiletries or even baby diapers that the baby may be allergic too. I know sometimes it is also good to give the child Personalized Jewelry as it means the child will never be able to give them away when it was meant for him or her. I remembered I received so many bottles of Johnson Baby products then. Gosh now the kids have outgrwn the Ajisen noodles we used to patronized too often..

Unemployment Rate May Go Down

Posted by spymama on Dec-6-2009

I know many of my friends are so excited to have the new IR (Integrated Resort) opening in the next year, first quarter. That gives them many of excuses to stay in Singapore and enjoy the new theme parks, food outlets (hundreds all coming out) and many new things to come. And I do know for a fact that many who are on a job search will find themselves a big platter of offers. Employers may then have to offer higher salary and benefits or profits if they want to keep their staffs or else face some stiff competition when the IRs try to woo and recruit them. I truly hope that this will create a Domino effect on Singapore, bring down unemployment rate and also gives each and every Singaporean better jobs and wages. Perhaps then the McD near home might have a vacancy for me then.. LOL

Savvy is So Important

Posted by spymama on Dec-6-2009

If you live in a country like Singapore, you will never get away with knowing all sorts of abbreviations that are common with living and lifestyle here. Well, unless you have only been here in less than 3 months? Hmm.. any one who has lived here should be able to know what they mean but there are some, though not many who just do not know what they truly mean. Singapore movies are filled with words commonly used in Singapore too. So if a foreigner who happens to watch the local movies come across such term, it may not be as funny at all. Some of the common ones are ERP, CTE, PIE, GST and some common words are Kiasu, Kiasi or even Wah Lao expressions. Even the little old lady who cleans the table at coffeeshop knows these terms. Then again, there may be some other universal terms like gps which she may not know at all. I remembered this lady who asked me what is broadband and I had so much trouble trying to explain to her because she was going to subscribe to it because the telco would give her a free laptop! I wonder if more queries will come my way pretty soon when she finally realizes that she also need to know how to use the pc first… sigh

Get your antioxidants cheap

Posted by spymama on Dec-2-2009

I walked past the fruit stall in the evening yesterday. The fruit seller was ‘auctioning’ off the fruits at only a dollar each basket. He didn’t want to keep them at the end of the day so he always sells them off at a cheap price. I consider this the Best Buy of the night because it is not often you get a big basket of local fruits like mangoesteens, durians or even bananas that cost a dollar each. Sometimes I get mangoes, honeydews or even starfruits too. They are just wonderful for making fruit juice because they are ripe and right for juicing. I wished he sells the oranges or apples too but most of the time these fruits last longer and can be kept for the next day’s sale. I love to buy ripe mangoes since they can be used for desserts like mango puddings and also mango with glutinuous rice.. my favourite! I got bananas yesterday, two combs for a dollar, a STEAL! I made banana shake this morning and they were just yummy!
