Vacation on a Ship

Posted by spymama on May-27-2009

My daughters brought home Travel Declarations forms last week to be filled up to return to their schools. In the past years, we have had to fill these because the school wants to know where you are going during the school holidays so that if there is an epidemic outbreak, it is easier to locate travellers to contain these viruses. However I was in a spot last week when I wanted to fill up the form. We might be going on a cruise in the holidays for maybe a 3 days thingy. But it will be in the international waters, only not to a specific country.. So how do I actually do that.. Perhaps I should just write the word Cruise and not bother about the country? I’ve never tried holidays on ships and since we thought it’d be a nice relaxing time without having to worry about meals since they are all taken care off. The girls are excited as they know there’s so much entertainment and activities on board like movie screening, game rooms, karaokes, bowling, swimming and more.

I better go check for available tickets, of course…

I’ll Make My Way, Without A Map!

Posted by spymama on May-26-2009

I’m really bad with directions. Give me a map and I’ll make slush out of it. Okay, bad joke. Taking a wrong turn, I found myself out of town in the area where they sell industrial products and lots of factory buildings. Well a wrong turn can be a blessing in disguise. Really. Because I found a plant nursery at the same time and I parked to have a look. I love plants and besides plants, they sell those water fountains too. Oh they are just beautiful. I know I can never have a big one at home because lack of space. But I really like the sound of water trickling down. Makes me relaxed and happy. Water therapy to me. Perhaps I should clear my balcony so that I can fit one there at the corner.

People say that water is a good fengshui element. Of course depending on where you place it. A good place would be the north area and where your entrance of the house is. Said to bring in wealth and luck. So maybe, just maybe I can come back here. Taking down the address, I hope the next time I make my wrong turn and make my way here, because I think the map is going to be out of the question. Or perhaps, my wrong turn will bring me to another wonderful place.

Cookie Guilt

Posted by spymama on May-26-2009

Smells.. smells of good food whenever I walk past some kiosk or stall.. I just cannot resist it. And on Sunday, there was this familiar yummy smell in the air. I trailed the smell (I really did!) and found this familiar sweet smell of Famous Amos Chocolate Chip’s Cookies.. Oh those delicious snacks that I’d die for anytime.

I bought about 300gms of it (that is already a little over $10) and chomped away. I had not had breakfast nor lunch so it’s very bad to go shopping on an empty stomach, I know. Ok forget about the fats, cholesterol, sugar, bla bla bla.. I finished them in less than half and hour.. Now feeling very guilty about it, two days later.

The thing is, I’m craving for more! Should I get them? The fresh ones are so yummy. I never buy those from the supermarket shelves.. they taste so different and waxy. sigh…. I’m just longing for more now.

Great SG Sale

Posted by spymama on May-26-2009

Another week till school vacation. I’m looking forward to it. It means I have more time to stay home and less running about with errands. What I really want to do is to pop by the local library to get a novel or something interesting to read. Perhaps do some shopping to. The GSS (Great Singapore Sale) is now on. Many things are going at good price. Already many electrical items are selling at low, low price. The best time to buy, really. Not to forget, I should probably look for some women’s lingerie from online shops too. I think these is really a good time.. No more granny panties. Out goes those holey ones! LOL!

I prefer to shop online, really. I really dislike crowded places. So if I want to go shopping, best time is about 10.30am when the shops are just opened. In the afternoon is the worst, especially if it is going to be the school holidays, of course.

On the list, Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Zoological Gardens, Sentosa Island.. if I can get Spypapa to walk. Otherwise, the nearby park for evening walks are also just as nice. Any plans for you out there?

Online 24/7

Posted by spymama on May-24-2009

I met up few friends for dinner last week. We have not met up in person or the last 3 years because of the convenience of MSN chats. Also, one of them travels a lot but we do not miss each other at all. We are online most parts of the day or night keeping up with each other’s lives reading updates on blogs as well as msn status. At home, working or even on vacation, my friend Sarah never fails to bring her Sony Vaio laptop with her.

Perhaps I should get myself one of those mini notebooks that can fit in my bag. I can keep in touch with anyone anytime too. But I also hear about those very useful PDAs that lets you get connected to Facebook, MSN, Yahoo, AOL and more. My mobile subscription is free of contract so I can actually get a good price with new handhelds. For the time being, I am torn between 3 brands. Sony-Ericsson C905 (pic left), Samsung or the HTC for PDAs. Anyone has a good recommendation?

Or should I just stick to a mini notebook instead. I really want to get online during the vacation break too.

Strings or Sticks?

Posted by spymama on May-24-2009

I ran out of dental floss last week and I keep forgetting when I am out. Wrote on the list of things to buy, but somehow the small note was too small I lost it while shopping in the supermarket. Last night, Spypapa went to the local supermarket to get himself a six-pack (Beer) so I text him a short message. ” Pls Get Dental Floss for me” This morning I remembered and asked where they were. He said, Oh I placed them on your desk. I went downstairs to check it out.. Saw this and shook those thingies out.. err… Spymama is very conventional person and I’ve been using the dental floss for years and never seen anything like these. Does that mean I have to buy my floss strings and tie them betweent two sticks? These looks like toothpicks!

Have you used these before? I’m really amused at how this thing works..

When Accidents Occur

Posted by spymama on May-16-2009

Last Wednesday, as I drove my girl to school, a man was pinned under his motorbike. He had just had an accident with a taxi. My heart sank because the man was not moving. It happened in the middle of the road and causing a long line of traffic jam. A school was just in front of the accident so you can imagine how bad the situation of the jam is.

Motorcyclists sometimes ride in the most reckless way, I noticed. On the roads, they do not adhere to their lanes and tend to ride on the lines itself. I find that very irritating because you never know which lane the riders are on and when he turns left or right. In some countries they speed and does the zig zag in between cars and other motorists causing accidents.

However, when it comes to accidents, these motorcyclists tend to be the ones who get hurt more often because they are exposed to the vehicles in a crash. I’ve seen some who crashed head on and fall on car bonnets before they are thrown off the car due to the moving vehicles. Scary as it may sound, some of the accidents may not be their fault but because of the many reckless bikers, they lose out when it comes to claiming compensation for medical and other cases.

In California, there are some lawyers who actually specialize in accident cases involving motocyclists. This is because many of them do not get their justified legal representation in court due to the general negative stigma of these motocyclists. Among them is an Oakland motorcycle accident lawyer by the name of Michael Padway who has helped many victims of accidents claim justified amount and understand the motorcycle accident process better than most people.

I wonder if there are such lawyers in other countries too.

We are all the same kind. Humans on Earth.

I was listening to a podcast by this gay fella recently. He talked about how he found how different he was growing up and resisting normal childhood like many others. He had put in more effort than many of his friends to be as normal as possible. And when he was an adult, he moved to the states, got a job and knew someone special. Then it was time to break the news to his parents. He had a boyfriend and of course it was the same time he came out in the open to tell his dear old mom and father about himself. He was emotionally touched when the respond from his parents turned out to be rather kind and how they felt that he had tried to live life as normal yet did not speak up about his difference. They spoke about him and accepted him without any signs of object, repulsive nor any rejection. They loved their son and they accepted what he was.

I think that this is something that the world needs to learn from. It is the education that as parents of children, gay or straight, accept them as they are. I’ve seen some parents who wished their kids were smarter, better, earn more money, etc etc. Those parents need to understand that we are all born different. If you reject your kid just because he did not do better than the other kid how much better are you as a parent compared with this parent who accepted their son’s gender. As much as we find them to be a little different than others, then again, he or she is your child and not theirs. Society is the one who categorizes them. No one is the same. I’ve seen this gay travel website recently and think that if this is a healthier option for them to be able to enjoy life like everyone else, it’s a wonderful thing. Everyone has different needs.

Life Rants

Posted by spymama on May-9-2009

I’ve lost touch with life outside. Well, not just here on my blog. Newspapers, television and friends. I think there are just some days when you feel like socializing and days when you feel you just want to stay away from them and be alone. Have some space. No, don’t worry, Spymama is not in any depression as some of the depression symptoms states. Just that perhaps sometimes I do wake up and rather not have to open my mouth to talk and just be like that for the rest of the day. Is it PMS? Errr… I am not sure. But that doesn’t mean I am not speaking to my family lah. Life is normal but the news around the world is just too daunting. If we all just take a few days and not bother to listened to politics, will our lives be better? I don’t know but I just wondered.

People call me up, inviting me for kopis and meals. Then, it is rather a boring day when everyone just sigh and talked about the economy, the swine virus, the state of financial and the retrenchments.. It’s too much of it. Can we all just smile and talk about how glad we are to be living or how lucky we are to have a meal in front of us now? Perhaps we need to look at a brighter side of things. Then again, don’t mind me. I’m just ranting and I am not sure what I’m ranting about… Maybe I should go check out that warehouse that is offering electronics at wholesale price. I would love to get a DVD player for my room!
