Lights

Posted by spymama on Nov-30-2008

My current electricity bill has just gone up by 25%. That is based on the last quarter of the year, whereby it was pegged to the time when fuel costs are most expensive. It will only be reduced in the first quarter of next year so I shall have to find ways on cutting down usage of many electrical items. I have my bathroom lighting on throughout the night as it keeps the children safe finding the bathroom in the middle of the night than to grope about in the dark. Now I think I shall have to change the light bulb to something more energy saving or fix a small night light. Either that or I’ll have to move the switch a little lower as my youngest wont be able to switch it on at night when she needs to go to the loo.

I Crave for Nyonya Kuehs

Posted by spymama on Nov-28-2008

After watching Singapore drama Little Nyonya, I am craving for those Nyonya kuehs. I miss those glutinous rice kueh that are in bluishly tinted and is served with a nice dollop of kaya jam.. Gosh as I write this, my mouth is watering already! Does anyone has this kueh recipe? I really really want to make that.

Nyonya kuehs comes in so many varieties. So I googled and found this website that sells nyonya kuehs in KL. They even allow you to order online and has a list of pictures and names of those lovely kuehs. The site is Nyonya Colours. Anyone in Malaysia familiar with this online store?

I love the way they list out these yummy offerings. You should check out their site.

Edison Scandal

Posted by spymama on Nov-26-2008

If you had been following the scandal about the Edison Chen, you probably would know what had happened. Not sure how it started but apparently there were pictures circulating around about him and some female celebrities and those pictures weren’t exactly decent. There were so many sex photos circulating. It started after rumours said that those pictures were retrieved from his laptop when he had sent it to the shop for repair or something. And because of this scandal, the director who had shot a movie JUMP with Edison Chen in it, had decided to dump him and use another actor and reshoot the whole show after again. The next star that will take over this show could be Fahrenheit’s Wu Zun.

The movie that was shot halfway that starred Edison had been postponed since the scandal and now it will not be used. Sets and costumes will have to be all done up over again but I guess since the director is going to start from the top, there shouldn’t be a problem.

I Love Little Nyonya

Posted by spymama on Nov-26-2008

If you love Peranakan culture, you shouldn’t miss Little Nyonya that debuts on Mediacorp’s channel 8 last night at 9pm. I have been waiting for a while for this drama after reading so much about the movies shots. For authentic culture, the mediacorp actors have travelled to Malacca and Penang for backdrops and the Peranakan (Straits Chinese) museum too.

This should bring back old nostalgic memories of my granny for me. Looking at their beautiful Kebaya, I think I want to go tailor make one for myself now!

Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Singapore too

Posted by spymama on Nov-26-2008

I can’t wait to watch Don’t forget the Lyrics. Not the US version but the Singapore version! It will be fun. It will be aired on the local channel on Thursday (that’s tomorrow! yipeee!). There are local celebrities who will be on it and some ex Singapore Idol contestents.

I wonder how many of them actually are real songbirds and fans! If they are fans of music, they would have been able to sing not just pop songs but those that belongs to yesteryears too. Spymama is very very good with songs in the yesteryears so it will be fun! I can’t wait! Gurmit Singh will be hosting it. He is such a jolly good fella.

I’ve watched the US version and it was just very nice indeed. Entertaining this show! Have you watched it before?

Save Up

Posted by spymama on Nov-26-2008

A friend of mine called me this morning. She is stuck in Thailand. Apparently she was supposed to fly back this week. She is there on a spa holiday but the recent news about protests and closure of the airport means she is going to be in Bangkok for a while. Well, all is not lost, actually.  She is going shopping instead. Wow, I don’t mind getting stuck where she is too. But that is if my pockets are as deep as hers.

Then again, with the unpredictable economy, I think we should be saving for a rainy day. I shall be reducing my budget for Christmas shopping this year. What about you. Any plans or New Year resolutions?

Convenience

Posted by spymama on Nov-25-2008

My neighbours are an old couple and they are both not very mobile. They have a middle-aged helper who has a nursing background to help them with many of the daily chores and more as their children are busy at work and always travel quite a bit. This morning, they told me that they have just renewed the helper’s work permit and insurance after two years of being with them. Lately, it is very convenient to have these paperwork done. Their son had renewed the permit via online but he had no time to collect the documents. Lucky for the abundant of commercial collection agencies, they can authorize the collection and payment of insurance policies without taking time off unless necessary. Perhaps it is a good idea to pay a small fee for time and convenience.

Smile and Say Thank You

Posted by spymama on Nov-22-2008

Spymama loves to read astrology.. Sometimes where I read something nice and pleasant, my day is a happy one. And when it sounds a little negative, I get a bit worried but not for long.

Today, my horoscope read: When you see something you like today, say so right away! Even if it feels weird or overly complimentary, your good energy helps you pull it off. Almost anything could happen as a result!

So that got me thinking…hmm does that mean I should compliment people? So, when I was out having lunch, a little old lady came to clear the table. It’s been on the Singaporean news about why we should be cleaning up after ourselves instead of letting people clear up our mess. So when I helped her stack up the plates and said thank you, she gave me a very nice smile. Oh that feels so warm. So remember, don’t forget to compliment or smile, it certainly is contagious and if it cheers the little lady, her work will be a happy one.

Who Else is Not Married?

Posted by spymama on Nov-21-2008

I was reading some grapevine news.. yes yes, I love all that gossip.. lol and saw a picture of George Clooney. Oh he is Spymama’s idol, no doubt about it. Well long time ago it was Brad Pitt but that was when he was still married to Jennifer Aniston. After he got married to Angelina Jolie, I didn’t like him anymore because the idea of a sacred marriage is no longer there. So, sorry Brad. So Spymama decided that since these idols are all divorcing and remarrying I think I better idolized Bachelors. Hmm even that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman has divorced.. .sob sob sob

Well, I googled and found George Clooney to be the Top Bachelor and I went ‘whaaa…’ he is not married? Oh that’s great. There’s still a long way until he gets married for the second time. Ahem.

Guess who are in the top Bachelor in the list I found, not sure if it’s updated yet.

1. George Clooney
2. Leonardo DiCaprio
3. Matthew McConaughey
4. Ryan Seacrest
5. Vince Vaughn
6. Jamie Foxx
7.
Owen Wilson
8.
Orlando Bloom
9.
Bruce Willis
10.
John Mayer

I looked twice then realise this list cannot be true! Bruce Willis how can not be married? So I googled George Clooney and found that he was married once to an actress Talia Balsam, from 1989 to 1993! Cheh..

Movies via Online

Posted by spymama on Nov-21-2008

I have friends who watch their movies via online. Basically, Spymama tried to but somehow cannot get used to it. Although I am watching from my LCD monitor, I still find it weird watching it here. I even watch SAW here but somehow it didn’t feel like I’m watching a movie. It felt more like work.

But I did catch Malaysia’s NTV Channel via online and watched some chinese drama and that was it. When my friends were all chasing Hong Kong drama via online, I decided to go rent the DVD and watch in the comfort of my room instead.

Oh, by the way SAW is now in it’s 5th sequel.. Anyone watched it yet?
