My Apologies Mott

Posted by spymama on Aug-21-2008

This is a special post for Mott because I left her blogs out of my Blogroll. Want to give her a cup of Iced Coffee to apologize. I also very happy to know her in this blogosphere.. There also many many good friends here, if I had forgotten to put you in your link, please remind me okie? Meanwhile I shall go to the pharmacy to get me some Gingko Biloba because I read that it helps with ailing memory..

So here is my cuppa Iced Coffee for my dear Mott.. of course Spymama likes you. I told you that I, too run like headless chicken when taking care of kids too mah. So we both can stick it out together. Never mind our hair can grow into Double Tumble Weeds.

I love the song, Side by Side, here is the part of the lyrics for you, Mott.

Oh, we ain’t got a barrel of money
Maybe we’re ragged and funny
But we’ll travel along, singin’ a song
Side by side
Don’t know what
’s comin’ tomorrow
Maybe it’s trouble and sorrow
But we’ll travel the road, sharin’ our load
Side by side

Spymama feels happy knowing YOU

Posted by spymama on Aug-20-2008

This morning, Spymama did some bloghopping. From one blog she hops to another. Boy, there were many lovely blogs out there. If Spymama were to sit in front of the pc whole day, there would be no breakfast, lunch and dinner on the table. So Spymama bloghopped to some regulars and some new bloggers. Then started to separate the guys and the girls. After all, one day if we have Tea Party, we can put all of you into two rows so you all can dance, okay? Spymama is a little bit old fashioned, pardon me okie?

After getting high, Spymama did ask some bloggers if they’d be willing to let me link to them and them linked to me. They call it Link Love, I like that term. After all, Spymama’s legs are not strong enough to always hop too far, so having the blog links here is easier and convenient for Spymama too.

After leaving some happy chats, fried prawns dangling on some cboxes, these few bloggers were only too happy to link to me. Yippeee! Now, Spymama is deliriously happy that she has made many new regular friends. Some say if too happy can do some somersaults but can’t do that, so perhaps I should just write about it.

Today, Spymama made some new friendly bondings with Nyumix, Christina (YY, why?), Cendrine, Rose and Homelife. Spymama gonna add Mummy Gwen too. Tonight Spymama will be too happy, it will be difficult to sleep! Spypapa asks why is a smile pasted on me face..

But of course, Spymama also cherishes all those in the blogrolls too. Hugs to all!

Butter Fried Prawns

Posted by spymama on Aug-18-2008

Prawns! Prawns are Spymama’s favourite dish, did you know that? Whenever I go to the Zhi Char corners, I would order this favourite dish of mine. This is called Butter Fried Prawns. They are so yummy! I took this picture when I brought the family out and ordered it. The prawns are deep fried crispy and they are just so nice, you actually eat them all with the shell and all. Lucky it’s only the tails and head left on.. They are great with those Thai Chilly Sauce too. Gosh talking about them leaves me all hungry again and mouth watering.. Hope Spymama don’t drown you all bloggers with my saliva, yea.

If you ever need to find virtual food to eat, do drop by Spymama’s blog. Otherwise, Spymama will bring them over to you, bloggers. Food for thought!

Spymama loves to eat Butter Fried Prawns with Nestum too.

Here is a recipe for the that.

350gms of medium to big prawns
Oil for frying
2 tablespoons of butter
2 egg yolks, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon of chopped garlic
1 tablespoon of chopped shallot
1 tablespoon of chicken powder (knorr)
1 teaspoon sugar
sliced curry leaves about 4 leaves
salt and pepper
100gm of nestum

1. You will need to heat up the oil. In another bowl, trim the prawns off the razor sharp edges. No shells but leave the tails and head intact. Trim off the long long err.. whiskers too. Do prawns have whiskers?

2. Deep fry the prawns in the oil for just a minute. It probably just turned slight pink. Drain it on some towels.

3. In a wok, saute the butter then the egg yolks briefly till it smells fragrant.

4. Add the garlic, chicken powder, sugar, curry leaves, salt and pepper and fry briefly.

5. Add prawns in and fry till the prawns are just cooked. Add the nestum in and fry till the are mixed together but dry.

Serve with some garnish like mint leaves or coriander. It’s yummy!

Olympics, while you’re still at it

Posted by spymama on Aug-18-2008

Last week, Spymama felt so lethargic. Just wanted to sleep sleep sleep all the time. Do you feel like that? Lucky the girls had no school on Thursday and Friday, due to the PSLE oral exams in Singapura. So those two days, Spymama really made herself like a couch potato, chasing HK dramas and watching Olympics.

Spymama was also counting on the Sg Table Tennis players to win a medal. They did brilliantly and brought home our only medal after 48 years in history of Singapore. The last one was long time ago. It’s about time, eh. The team did very well and Spymama wanted to go celebrate with Spypapa on a midnight date but Spypapa wanted to be Couch Potato on the bed watching HK drama.. Aaah is that what life for forty year olds are like? Sheesh!

Then Spymama also watched the Badminton on Sunday and hoped the Malaysian player will bring home a Gold for Badminton too. But alas the game was brilliantly won by the Ever Alert China players. It was really challenging, to see how Singapore and Malaysia tries so hard to win but a Silver is also a winner.

Spymama will remain Olympic Champion for couch potato, time being..

Eeek for Eels

Posted by spymama on Aug-16-2008

Spymama loves to eat Japanese Food. Do you? Whenever Spymama goes to the Japanese restaurant, without fail, I’ll order some of my favourites like the Roasted or BBQ Unagi (Eel) or the deepfried Soft Shell Crab.. I just love them. Even the tempuras are so yummy. When Spymama cooks them at home, no one shares my interest in Japanese food.. Spypapa loves only like Sashimi but that is one item that Spymama don’t consume. Those raw food don’t go well in Spymama’s tummy. So, the best way to enjoy Japanese food would be to go to the Japanese restaurant and be served. Stress free and I don’t have to mop the floor after cooking.

Spymama’s friend said those Japanese Unagi (direct import from Japan) are so expensive. There are some from China and nearby but they don’t taste as good. So Spyfriend said why not make your own Unagi.. Then Spymama drove to the supermarket to look at the Eels.. then I go eeeeeee… they all so lively.. how to kill like that!!

They look like snakes and Spymama so scared of snakes.. so end up I bought the one already roasted or bbq-ed one home.. I think if buy live eels sure a lot of work to do..

Spymama wants to be SLIM

Posted by spymama on Aug-15-2008

Spymama felt very tired lately. I think the weather is very humid and hot. It’s extremely bright and sometimes I feel like putting on my shades even in my house. Late last weekend I think I had too much oily food and I am thinking of washing of the layers of oil from my insides.. So this morning Spymama went to the store to get some Vinegar. Not just any other vinegar, but the cider vinegar. Did you know that cider vinegar is very good for health? My mom takes it daily. Here is how you take them.

1 part of Cider Vinegar
2 parts of Honey

Dilute it in hot water, and drink it. You don’t need to take a lot of it. I make them a tablespoon of vinegar, 2 tablespoons of honey and half a cup of hot water.

Spymama’s Mom said that it helps to clear the oil off our internal organs. True or not, i dunno lah. But it’s worth a try. Like the alphabet M perhaps slim it down to N. Oh does that mean I’m gonna be Spynana then? Ohh that sounds like granny. Well as long as I get to be slim, any name will do.

Soya Bean Reduces Cancer Risk

Posted by spymama on Aug-12-2008

Asians tend to use alot of Soya. There’s light soya sauce, dark soya sauce, soya oil, soya beans, soya bean curd, soya drink and much more variety, of course. In the west, although there are soya items, it is not as widely available as in the East, like China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and even Indonesia. Did you know that soya beans are used in boiling of soup for chinese, used as a dish like the tempeh for malays, and soya bean curd is a popular dessert as well.

Reports have also shown that soya is beneficial to us. I use Soya Oil in my cooking too. I read in the papers that drinking a cup of soya milk a day can reduce the risk for Breast Cancer by 18%.  That is according to the study by National University of Singapore, the University of Southern California and the University of Minnesota based on studies of 34,000 chinese women from aged 45 to 74 for a decade.

So why not add a glass of soya bean milk to your daily lifestyle or a serving of soya rich food to you meals.

Stingray Monday

Posted by spymama on Aug-11-2008

Did you remember in September 4 2006, when Steve Irwin, popularly known as Crocodile Hunter died while shooting a footage with a Stingray? It was a shock to many who had been his fans especially when you see this fella had been fighting with the much more fatal reptiles like crocodiles and snakes. How did a stingray that looked so harmless be the cause of his death? Apparently sometimes we are so complacent that we never knew anything like that could happen. Stingrays are known to be such harmless creatures that many tourists flock to as far as the Jamaican waters just to feed, touch and swim with Stingrays.

In fact, in the footage where Steve was doing, the reports were that the stingray felt threatened while swimming alongside with Steve as there was a cameraman ahead shooting. That was when it raised the spike on the tail as a form of defense and it shot right into Steve’s chest.

Thus never let your guards down or be complacent in anything you do. We are always taught about learning to pick up after signs of trouble, distress and problems. Sometimes we are also caught unaware of things. I was a definite fan of Steve Irwin so when it happened it was something really quite a shock to me.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is that, look around you. If you have your love ones nearby, give them a hug, a kiss or even some kind words. These never go wrong, never fail to make someone better. Tell the person how much he or she means a lot to you. Never procrastinate, just do it. How long does it take for you to pick up that call and tell him or her you love/miss/are thinking of her/him?

And for tonight, I’m going to forget about cooking and go buy my favourite BBQ Stingray, lots of sambal chilly and lime on it. Would you like some?
